Position Overview
The Department of Veterans Affairs, Albany Stratton VA Medical Center, requires a Board Certified/Board Eligible Anesthesiologist to provide onsite anesthesia coverage in the operating room, on hospital wards, and in procedure suites in support of surgical specialties including general surgery, orthopedics, urology, ophthalmology, ENT, and related services. This is a non-personal healthcare services role supporting a state-of-the-art VA surgical program serving Veterans in the Capital Region.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide comprehensive anesthesia care for scheduled surgical and procedural cases, including preoperative evaluation, intraoperative management, and postoperative documentation.
• Be physically present in the operating room at scheduled start times; evaluate patients the morning of the procedure and enter the Immediate Anesthesia Note in CPRS.
• Document all cases in the electronic Anesthesia Record Keeper (ARK) and complete the O.R. record/post-op note in CPRS.
• Participate in on-call rotation covering weeknights (5:30 PM–7:00 AM), weekends (Saturday 7:00 AM–Monday 7:00 AM), and federal holidays, with availability by phone within 15 minutes and on-site within 60 minutes if called back.
• Maintain Board Certification/Eligibility through the American Board of Anesthesiology, current ACLS/BLS, and all VA-mandated annual training.
• Participate in quality improvement activities, peer review, and monthly staff meetings as required by the Chief of Service.
Qualifications & Experience
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
• Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA); current ACLS/BLS certification.
• Active or obtainable National Provider Identifier (NPI); current DEA registration.
• Ability to obtain VA credentialing and privileging (VetPro) prior to start of services.
• Fluent in spoken and written English; strong clinical documentation skills.
